ORGANIZERS + HISTORY OF THE TOUR

The Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour was started by UVic History Professor Elizabeth Vibert in 2015 and raised funds in an effort to build community and raise awareness of food sustainability and security locally and globally, with a focus on what small efforts can do to contribute to these. The tour continued in 2017 and in 2019 local Victoria business Any Thyme Gardening took over the bulk of the organizing of the tour as a cause that aligns with their values.

The Covid pandemic put a pause on the tour but fundraising efforts continued in 2020 to raise funds for 1Up Single Parent Resource Centre in cash donation plus purchase of locally grown produce from NorthStar Organics which was distributed to the clients at the Centre.

The Victoria Urban Food-Garden Tour is organized by Rebecca Lang and Kaleigh Valois of Any Thyme Gardening, a local garden design company that highlights growing food in urban gardens with an aesthetic focus and  with help from Elizabeth Vibert, a historian at UVic whose research focuses on gender and food security in Southern Africa.
